Aaron Burr 1756-1836, Vice President of the United States under Thomas Jefferson for Jefferson's first term. He served as a Continental Army Officer in the Revolutionary War, elected twice to New York State Assembly, appointed New York State Attorney General and then U.S. Senator. In 1804, the last year of his single term as vice president, Burr killed his political rival, Alexander Hamilton. Although he was never convicted of murder, he was arrested for treason. This fight with Hamilton is considered the most famous duel in American political history. Here is a scarce 1788 "Cafhiers" (cashier's) check written in New York in the amount of four pounds.
