B.B. King- The late, great King OI The Blues. Here is an extremely important, personally owned and worn White House jacket. The letter of provenance from B. B. King’s daughter, Patty King, reads in part (exactly as written),
“I recall the day he left me with one of his favorite coats. He laid in bed and reminisce the time he spent at the White House with President George W. Bush Jr. after accepting the Presidential Medal of Freedom. (he said:) “After I played, he invited me to a dinner. Norman told me, ‘B. you got to have another coat to where to dinner. These people change clothes for everything’. So I told President Bush that I had to excuse myself for a second. I rushed as fast as I could, changing into another coat. I guess I was glad we bought 1 more with us. I came out and the President looked me up and down. I thought maybe I had something on backwards or something was on my face. I then realized nobody else had changed….”
B. B. King wore a plain black jacket for the ceremony and then this is the sparkling performance jacket he wore to dine with and perform for President Bush, who grabbed the microphone and joined the band! It is a precious and glorious moment in time, captured in the photos. The performance jacket has both the custom embroidery, reading “Made Specially for B. B. King, King of the Blues”, and the famous patch: “”B. B. King, with world globe image, and the manufacture “SASINC”, the entertainment promoter and clothier for stars. Presented in a wonderful display honoring the wonderfully talented musician.
