Chuck E. Yeager, 1923, was a United States Air Force officer, a flying ace and a test pilot famous for being the first pilot to have exceeded the speed of sound in level flight. He became a P-1 fighter pilot in World War II and a test pilot who broke several speed and altitude records, for which he was honored with both the Collier and Mackay trophies. He was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame and awarded the Medal of Honor, and into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame. Also, He was inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame in 1981. Chuck Yeager is considered one of the greatest pilots of all time.
