Florence Nightingale 1820-1910, English social reformer and statistician and Founder of Modern Nursing. She gave nursing a new standard, a new reputation and became an icon of Victorian culture, particularly in the persona of "The Lady with the Lamp", who would make the rounds of wounded soldiers at night. She came into particular prominence for training and managing nurses during the Crimean War. She was an avid writer and documented well those practices that would be the foundation for nursing requirements. Here is a hand written and signed envelope by Florence Nightingale, who dated it 11/4/(18)65, importantly to Mary Elizabeth Mohl, her close friend and writer in defense of women’s rights and defining society in France. Scarce, wonderful piece.
