John Hancock 1737 - 1793
Merchant, statesman, and Patriot of the American Revolution. He was President of the Second Continental Congress and both first and third Governor of Massachusetts. His is one of the half dozen most collectible historical autographs in the world. He was a ratifier of the United States Constitution, and notably the very first to sign the Declaration of Independence, the most treasured document in the history of America, for with this act, each man who signed it was offering his life and liberty for the cause of freedom for all. It is said he signed it quite large so that King George, III, would see his name first and he would be the first to pay the consequences, or reap the rewards of freedom. Here is a bold signature by one of America’s Founding Fathers, John Hancock.
