Pepsi Cola original Vendorlator Model 81 vending machine. This famous design is THE most popular and difficult vending machine to find and even more significantly, it is one of the premier ones that has the original beautiful embossed name across the front. Pepsi-Cola was founded in 1893 by Caleb Bradham and called “Brad’s Drink”, renamed as Pepsi-Cola in 1898. Since it kept the name Pepsi-Cola all the way until 1961, thereafter simply Pepsi, the earliest machines all carried that more formal name. During the Great Depression, Pepsi introduced the 12 oz bottle for the same price as the small bottles and added its famous jingle: "Pepsi-Cola hits the spot / Twelve full ounces, that's a lot / Twice as much for a nickel, too / Pepsi-Cola is the drink for you”. It was a hit and a great marketing tactic, offering twice as much soda for the same price, during the depression. The new size required the creation of a new vending machine to hold the longer bottles. This original Pepsi Cola model 81 is fully restored and operating. The inside is also fully restored and we have enclosed an image of that as well. It holds 81 bottles on 9 slanting shelves that let gravity do the work of rolling another bottle down when you pull one out. The storage space underneath can hold another 6 bottles so they would always be pre-cooled. It can also hold long neck beer bottles and other beverages by adjusting the shelves, which move forward and back to accommodate different sized bottles. It stands 58” x 27” x 16”. A grand addition to any home or business!
