This is the actual appointment Abraham Lincoln signed appointing Hammond as Surgeon General during the Civil War! It is signed by President Abraham Lincoln, full signature, and also signed by Edwin Stanton as Secretary of War. There is quite a bit of history that will be included with this piece. Framed on the left of the display, you will find the original shipping tube in which this document was sent to William Hammond by Abraham Lincoln!
