Abraham Lincoln/Stephen Douglas
SKU: #16667
Abraham Lincoln hand written and full signature check in final payment of a debt of $15.46 dated October 29, 1837, the year when he made his first reported speech to the Illinois Legislature. This is paired with an official check drawn on the Bank of the Metropolis in Washington DC for $95 signed by Stephen Douglas and dated April 23, 1860, the year Abraham Lincoln was elected President. The Lincoln-Douglas debate is, to this day, the standard for a values debate, placing heavy emphasis on logic, ethics and philosophy. Held in 1858 between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas, it focused on slavery, morals and standards of humanity.
